BallerStatus.net: Sports and hip-hop -- the two genres cross a lot. Same thing with sports entertainment and hip-hop, a lot of times people get stereotyped or pigeonholed for only being able to do one thing. How is John Cena going to make people lend him their ears?
John Cena: The proof is in the pudding. Every time we can, we go out and promote to get all the spins we can or attack the mixtape scene. The thing is, we ain't coming up like regular MCs, we took a different road. There's a monster vehicle called the WWE that we got, and we had a lot of fun in the studio, so we kept recording. We were going to drop it indie, but I took it to Vince [McMahon]...
BallerStatus.net: And what did he think of it?
John Cena: Honestly, he said, "It needs work. Work on it some more and give it back to me."
BallerStatus.net: Is Vince a hip-hop head?
John Cena: (laughs) Nah, but I know he liked it. That was the best thing to happen because we went back in the lab, and we could come out with a box set with all the music we put out. We came out with the cream of the crop for us, and we took it to him when we were done and handed him the finished project.
BallerStatus.net: Tell me about working for Vince. Everyone wants to know how it is working for Vince McMahon?
John Cena: I'm going to spit real talk to you right now. Vince is a great dude. He's a businessman first and foremost, and he protects his empire at all costs because that's his hustle. He busts his ass off and honestly, I think he's from another planet. He can go from bell to bell, and at the end of the day, he's a good dude and a great dude to work for. I'll go to bat for him over anything. That's my man right there.
