Recap of The Godfather's "Get In the Ring" interview on AudioWrestling.com
The Godfather was a guest on the latest edition of Get In The Ring on AudioWrestling.com. You can hear the new show for free every week in streaming audio on that site!
The show hosts, Sir Adam and The Phantom (authors of the new book Mysteries Of Wrestling: Solved) call in to the Cheetah's strip club to talk to the wrestler formerly known as the Godfather.
The Godfather talks about being the general manager of the Cheetah's strip club in Las Vegas. Talks about his Godfather gimmick coming from his real life jobs in strip clubs.
Godfather says it was a mutual agreement about his leaving WWE. Stating Vince McMahon wanted to go all the way with the character but the forces that be wouldn’t let them push it.
He talks about playing dominoes with the Undertaker and Shane McMahon in recent weeks. And that he's a dominoes champion, and taught Undertaker how to play.
They ask the Godfather if he misses being in the ring. He tells them he doesn’t miss being in the ring, and he is surrounded by women now just like in wrestling. Godfather gets into his real life nickname the Bear, and how he spends his free time. And how he no longer watches wrestling.
They ask the Godfather how he got away with saying his old catch phrases on TV such as a roll a fatty for this pimp daddy. He believes most people didn’t know what they meant. The guests and Godfather talk about how much the product has changed in a short period of time following the Attitude Era.
HHH's name comes up. Godfather jokes that he never married the boss's daughter. But then says HHH was always nice to him.
Godfather talks about what wrestlers he keeps in touch with, including the Undertaker.
They ask him about his thoughts on the Rock, and the Godfather says he was always a good guy and deserves his stardom. Vince knew the Rock was going to be a main guy some day when he put him in the Nation of Domination.
Godfather talks about all the boys back in the day used to hang out in strip clubs. Now the current wrestlers play video games.
The hosts talk about having a hard time with getting the Warrior on GIR. And talk about the Papa Shango angle, and working with the Ultimate Warrior. Including the infamous puking angle. Godfather says he never had a problem with him. And always had Undertaker as his mentor.
Godfather says he's happy being off the road. Now he can spend time with his kids, race motorcycles, and doesn’t have to travel.
Godfather talks about being very close to the character, except not being a pimp. The hosts ask him about ribbing, he claims he was never into ribbing, just having fun.
Godfather talks about being the opponent for Owen Hart on the night he died. He doesn’t like talking about it. But remembers the RAW tribute to Owen, and going out with the Road Dogg a couple nights later and "rolling a fattty" in tribute to their lost friend. They ask him about his thoughts on the RAW Tribute show. Godfather says Vince told them they could do what they want, they didn’t have to wrestle.
Godfather gets into his best friends in wrestling. Mentioning the Undertaker, Teddy Long, Savio Vega, Ron Simmons, JBL and others. Godfather tells a funny story of playing golf with the Undertaker recently.
Godfather plugs the Cheetah strip club, located at 2112 Western Avenue, open 24 hours in Las Vegas. Says he doesn’t mind talking about wrestling if people stop by. And even though he's retired he still has a lot of ho's.
Godfather closes by saying he had a lot of fun in wrestling. And offers to hook Sir Adam and the Phantom up with "girlfriends" if they look him up in Vegas. And ends with his trade mark catch phrase "Pimping Ain't Easy".
