To read the rest of the recap of JBL on Byte This, go to www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=7705&p=1.
Lloyd brings up an article he wrote on WWE.com about his trip to Iraq. Lloyd asks him to give a brief synopsis about the article to those who haven’t read it yet. JBL said he was doing something for the soldiers. He says he was in Mossul right before the bombing. He thought it was a motor attack. It turned out to be a suicide bomber. He met a lot of soldiers who were wounded, mentioning one in particular, who was just sitting back, and JBL thought he was too hurt and too messed up to visit. So he was trying to get out of the way of hospital personnel and EMTS and all. But they told him that this guy was a wrestling fan and wanted to meet JBL. So he went to meet this guy, and his face was almost completely burnt off and his hair was off his head, his ears were unrecognizable. He had told the doctors his knees were paining because he had shrapnel stuck in his knee so he wasn’t operated yet. The guy told Bradshaw to shake his hand because he became blind and could not see. He told him that when he took the hit, he was glad to still be alive. Then he realized he took the hit for his little brother, his family and guys like JBL and he was proud to defend his country. JBL says if he lives a 1000 years, he will never replicate that moment and that person defines the term “Hero”. JBL said he was honored to be in the presence of that man, who thanked him, when it should have been JBL thanking him, which he did do. Its stuff like that that he talks about in the article. He says the trip was made possible by Vince McMahon, who he can’t say enough of. He says Vince has done a lot for the soldiers and the country. He says he took some liberties with people who said Vince had his own agenda when he made the speech on the show, but Vince was talking on behalf of the troops and they loved him for it. He said anybody who was criticizing Vince, were sitting in their little room in Des Moines, Wichita, Dallas or wherever and weren’t in Iraq and Vince was. Lloyd said he loved those three words about Vince McMahon –“a great American”.
Lloyd said a lot of people don’t know about this, but JBL had a big part in WWE going to Iraq. JBL says Vince gives him too much credit, but it was Vince’s “baby”. JBL went over there in July 2002 with Ron Simmons, and he met with one of the army personnel who asked him if they wrestled in Iraq to which Bradshaw said no. So he said, wouldn’t it be great if they did. So he ran that idea with Vince. Within a week, Vince and Kevin Dunn had everything mapped out and taken care of. He reiterates that Vince gives him too much credit, but it’s his project entirely.
