WWE is undergoing its biggest overhaul of its developmental system in years. We've been covering this situation in great detail in the Torch Newsletter in recent weeks. Here are the main points we've covered:
-Ohio Valley Wrestling will remain the main developmental territory with Danny Davis and Jim Cornette running the show. Lance Storm has been flown in each week to help train wrestlers. He has been asked to relocate from Calgary to Louisville, Ky. to save on travel expenses. He has suggested WWE open a developmental territory in Calgary. His status is up in the air.
-Al Snow, famous for being the main trainer on all four Tough Enoughs, will not return to announcing Heat but instead is expected to be reassigned to Louisville to become the new main trainer of OVW. The move is not final yet, but is expected.
-WWE is working with Jody Hamilton, a/k/a The Assasin who was part of the WCW Power Plant training center, to open a new territory in Georgia. The hold-up so far has been finding a facility that Vince McMahon likes for the TV tapings to take place. He was originally unhappy with the size of the arena that Bill Behrens's NWA Wildside promotion was using. Other sites have been scouted.
-Bill Behrens is meeting with WWE officials today to discuss how his NWA Wildside promotion may be an integral part of the new Georgia developmental system. NWA Wildside is syndicated in late night slots on many smaller TV stations across the country every weekend.
-Bill Demott, an assistant trainer with Tough Enough 3 and 4, is expected to be asked to relocate from Florida to Georgia to be the main trainer of the new Georgia Developmental Territory. If Demott turns down the offer, Snow may be sent here instead. Tim Horner is also slated to be one of the main trainers of the new Georgia territory.
-There remains talk of opening a developmental system in Stamford, Conn. and on the West Coast, but those talks are in early stages compared to the Georgia system.
-V.P. of talent relations John Laurenaitis is heading up the overhaul and is working on tightening the budgets to impress Vince McMahon with his fiscal responsibility.
-Tommy Dreamer replaced Tom Prichard last year as the main office employee in charge of evaluating the developmental talent. Laurenaitis makes all final decisions on who is called up to the main roster.
