WWE-R- Superstars Entertain U.S. Troops in Iraq For A Special WWE SmackDown!-TM- This Thursday Wednesday December 22, 12:34 pm ET
STAMFORD, Conn.--Dec. 22, 2004--World Wrestling Entertainment®(NYSE:WWE - News) Chairman Vince McMahon(TM) and the SmackDown! Superstars just returned safely from entertaining thousands of U. S. troops in Iraq, which culminated in a soon to be televised performance for the troops near Tikrit. This has become an annual tradition for World Wrestling Entertainment and our troops operating in harm's way.
"WWE Christmas in Iraq" a special episode of WWE SmackDown!, this Thursday (8:00 PM/7C) on UPN, documents what happened when the SmackDown! Superstars were integrated into the troops' lives and performed for them over the three-day tour. The Superstars visited more than 20 military locations, most being forward operating bases. This holiday episode shares with the American public the experience of daily life for U.S. servicemen and women as they continue to fight in Operation Iraqi Freedom II.
This tour was organized by Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) headed by Arthur Meyers, Director of Air Force Services. AFE has identified WWE as one of the most popular entertainment tours for servicemen and women. This is the second consecutive year that AFE has invited WWE to come perform for the troops in Iraq around the holidays.
The USO of Metropolitan Washington this year honored WWE with its first ever "Legacy of Hope" Award in recognition of the WWE's tireless service to our troops and its efforts to keep the legacy of Bob Hope alive.
