While the league lasted only one year and was subject of countless jokes, Butkus is proud of his association. "I have a lot of respect for Vince McMahon (founder of the XFL)," Butkus said. "The concepts he came up with for the XFL were really innovative. Things like miking the coaches and having a sky camera view. "Vince wanted to wait a year before starting, but when NBC came on board they forced him to start early. I'm proud of what we did.
