Paul Heyman, who was recently removed from WWE's Creative Team, was not at the Armageddon PPV last night. After being taken off of the team on December 3, one of Heyman's responsibilities was to include him appearing in an on-air role with John Heidenreich, but he was not there when Heidenreich appeared in the main event last night. At this point, I am not sure what that means, if it means anything at all, but it's definitely odd that he wasn't there and given the tension between him and the McMahons, it bears watching. In addition to working as a manager, Heyman is also expected to go back to his role as a script consultant, which he did during his other periods when he was off of the creative team.
A lot of people backstage were wondering why Heyman wasn't there last night. Since there is a negative feeling among many of the workers due to the direction of the company and the business of late, people were assuming that there had to be something more to Heyman's not showing up.
Jesus was working with a groin/leg injury that he suffered recently. The match with John Cena was booked last night to compensate for the injury.
The feeling backstage last night among the people that I spoke with was that Armageddon was pretty bad. I told five different WWE people this morning that I missed the show due to family commitments and the Philadelphia Eagles game last night but was going to get the replay, and they all told me not to bother doing so. They all said "Save your money". One person even told me to do myself a favor and "save three hours of your life". That isn't exactly a glowing endorsement for the show. There is definitely a feeling among many in the company that they do too many PPV shows and that they aren't special any more. I pretty much agree with that statement. WWE has to get back to making the PPVs special events, not just another TV show.
The result of an unscientific poll I conducted was that Eddie Guerrero was the MVP of the show, doing all that he could to make the main event a good match. As you could probably tell from last night though, there are no plans to put the title back on him at this time. Vince McMahon continues to be very happy with JBL as the WWE Champ and he is expected to hold the title at least through WrestleMania..
