The opening video of Shawn Michaels taking a Scott Hall survey is shown, complete with Edge influencing the vote with a spear to the Heartbreak Kid. The announcers welcomed the audience to the show, hyping the main event debate. A counter in the corner appeared for the voting. Eric Bishoff was in the ring in his ninja outfit, and he called down Eugene. Eugene wore a pair of his own foam gloves. Bishoff said Eugene embarrassed him for his entire life, and now it was his turn to do it back. Eric says that he will not be fighting Eugene tonight though, instead Gene Snitsky would. The two stared down to start, before the “Halloween mask with legs” pounded Eugene around the ring. Snitsky made the error of pounding the special young man’s head in the corner, prompting Eugene to hulk up and make a comeback. That was ended when Snitsky lifted Eugene into his arms and backed him into the steel ring post. Snitsky hit his Test drive pump handle side slam for the squash victory. Gene Snitsky defeated Eugene via pin fall. After the match Snitsky went to bring a chair into the ring, and Regal tried to make the save. Just like Eugene, he was squashed. Eric took to the ring and delivered a spinning side kick to an injured nephew. The debate between Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit and Edge was announced as next.
Todd Grisham, acting as moderator, introduced the debate. This is incredibly lame, in case anyone was “Undecided.” Each man announced again why they he deserved to be the challenger, with HBK imitating John Kerry and telling Edge if he was hungry he should get a “Sammich.” I know I am reading Ridin’ With the Bossman this week. Of course this broke down when semi-heel Edge declared he was going to spear both men. Benoit gave the blond Canadian a German Suplex, but Shawn Michaels missed him with the super kick. Todd Grisham was supposed to take the bump, and did so even though the kick clearly missed him. The heel team of Gail Kim, Molly Holly and Trish Stratus took on the face team of Stacy Kiebler (Black, no sleeve shirt, khaki shirt and ankle warmers), Nidia and Victoria. This was a standard women’s match, with Stacy playing Eddie Gilbert early on and Victoria getting the hot tag. Nidia and Stacy helped clear the ring, allowing Victoria to hit the Widow’s Peak for the pin of Gail Kim. Stacy Kiebler, Nidia and Victoria defeated Gail Kim, Molly Holly and Trish Stratus via pin fall.
Earlier in the night Snitsky destroyed Eugene and subsequently William Regal. Gene was backstage on the cell phone, when Lita appeared. She said she came to the arena to look him in the eyes. She started to wail on him in a rage. Gene grabbed her and told her that what happened wasn’t his fault, but what tomorrow Kane will lose hit match just like Lita lost her baby. Randy Orton appearing on Jimmy Kimmal’s show last night was shown. Jimmy ripped the aging Flair apart in the segment. In the Evolution locker room, Flair watched the monitor with an angry gaze. Triple H told Flair that Orton would not be laughing after tonight or tomorrow. Flair said he had never been better.
Evolution’s animal and veteran took on the Intercontinental Champion and the Legend Killer. Jericho started things off with a drop kick to the massive Batista, and then pounded him in the corner before he escaped. Afterward, Dave took control and tagged Ric Flair in only for Orton to immediately get the tag as well. Ric lit Orton up with chops in the corner, only for Randy to respond with right hands. A thumb to the eye led to Orton being tossed out, and a rake to the face had Flair pounding Jericho. Randy popped back in and cleared as the show went to commercial.
As per the formula of a WWE televised tag match the show returned with the heels in control. Jericho fought back bravely with a second rope drop kick and chops, but the quick tags and blatant double teaming left him a puddle. Batista locked on a camel clutch, which I think is the perfect submission for his arsenal. During Jericho’s beating, which had now lasted five minutes, the polls were announced as open. Finally Orton got the hot tag, and begun to wipe the floor with the old man, Ric Flair. He had a near fall, but Batista broke it up. Jericho hit a high flying cross body on the monster, a face plant DDT on Flair and a springboard dropkick to Batista. Orton set up the RKO on Flair, only for Ric to low blow both the official and him. Jericho popped back in to apply the Walls of Jericho. Batista had recovered though, and delivered his devastating lariat to knock the Canadian blond unconscious. Flair applied the Figure Four onto Y2J, who managed to avoid the pin fall but was forced to tap out. Evolution defeated Chris Jericho and Randy Orton via pin fall.
Video from the WWE tour of Europe was shown. The King was shown casting his ballot from his laptop, and a saved password popped up in his browser. I hope that does not turn out badly, since the numbers were clearly shown on screen. Vince McMahon came to ringside to talk about the fans having the power now, when Christian interrupted. He thanked all his fans for their support. Christian said his fans, the Christian Coalition (Ha!) were everywhere. Christian then asked the Chairman for his endorsement. “Throw Jericho out the door - vote Captain Charisma out the door!” Tajiri then interrupted, telling Vince in broken English that he should choose him, because he loves Mr. McMahon. They both hugged him, and Vince tossed them off saying he loves neither of them. Coach then came down himself, asking for the endorsement as well. Vince said he hates to be interrupted, Christian agreeing whole-heartedly. I love that kiss ass. Rhyno ran down, and Vince thought he was there for an endorsement as well, but Rhyno was just there to gore Coach and Christian. Vince said they were like children, and Christian said he believed the children were… that was as far as he got before Vince told him to shut up. Hurricane would come down, and Benjamin as well. Vince would not even let Shelton speak. Vince was disgusted, and asked for a referee. He declared a six man elimination match for his endorsement. Christian hit an inverted stun gun on Hurricane, and Tajiri eliminated him.
During the break Tajiri knocked Coach off the apron onto the guard rail. Rhyno and Coach were eliminated in short order, and it was down to Christian and Shelton Benjamin. Shelton was in control early, with a back-slide shoulder breaker, but was thrown into the guard rail outside. Benjamin had a comeback with the dragon whip. Christian ended the comeback by jerking Shelton off… the top rope, but started to gloat to Vince. This allowed Shelton to Hit the T-Bone Suplex and get the victory. Shelton Benjamin defeated Christian, Rhyno, Tajiri, Coach and The Hurricane. Vince endorsed Shelton, who said that if he had let him speak earlier he would know that Benjamin wanted to impress more than Vince, but the fans.
In the ring Lillian Garcia, who looked smoking in a pair of over the knee boots, introduced Christy Hemme and Carmella. Carmella said that she would not parade around in her bra and panties or have her evening gown ripped off. He has been a competitive aerobics competitor for years, and wants the fans to pick that. Christy said that Carmella could dictate what she wants, but Christy was willing to do anything for the guys. Last time Christy was in the ring, she kissed Eugene. Tonight, she would kiss… Lillian Garcia!? Somewhere Super Chico is crying happily. Afterward, Carmella blindsided the more popular Christy. The announcers ran down the possible matches for tomorrow’s Taboo Tuesday.
Last Monday night, Edge pinned Triple H. This week, Hunter came to the announcer’s booth to watch Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit and Edge square-off. Edge speared Benoit outside, allowing Michaels to hit the baseball slide onto him. At the break, Michaels hit a springboard moonsault to the outside on both Edge and Benoit.
The show returned with Michaels in control of Benoit, only to be reversed into the cross face. Edge broke that up, and delivered a suplex to the Rabid Wolverine. Triple H said that at the rate things were going, he might take on all three men. At this point David Ortiz did it again, and I was left holding my head. When I looked up Shawn Michaels delivered a flying elbow drop to Chris Benoit. HBK was playing as though he were seriously injured. Shawn tuned up the band, but missed the super kick and ate a trio of German Suplexes. He called for the flying head butt, but Edge stopped him. Edge missed the spear, ramming his shoulder into the ring post. Benoit locked on the sharpshooter, but Edge refused to tap before HBK hit sweet chin music on Benoit. All three men were down. Edge tried to spear Benoit again, but was nearly reversed into the cross face. Edge held on the ropes, so Benoit attempted a roll up. Edge rolled through the roll up, grabbed some tights and the ropes (Quite clearly in front of the official) and got the cheap pin fall. Edge defeated Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit via pin fall.
