Steve Austin recently did an interview in Japan where he hinted that he may indeed be coming to Japan to wrestle, though he never came out and said it blatantly. Austin praised Vince McMahon for being a smart promoter and he said that he left WWE on good terms.
Some interview highlights... Austin said that his favorite wrestling tape was of a Barry Windham vs. Dick Murdoch match from TBS. His favorite match that he's ever been involved in was the Wrestlemania 13 match against Bret Hart. He stated that Ric Flair is the greatest of all-time, and in his opinion the greatest modern wrestlers are Bret Hart and Kurt Angle who he also stated were the best technical wrestlers he'd ever seen. He praised Ricky Steamboat for his psychology in the ring and he also mentioned Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, and Shawn Michaels.
Austin said that he has never seen Japan's MMA, though he has heard about it. Austin doesn't have cable television in his house and he rarely watches TV anyway. Not like that would matter, as Japan's MMA promotions don't air on U.S. cable TV. Austin also praised Shelton Benjamin and Brock Lesnar. He stated that he's spoken with Lesnar since they both left the company, and there is a lot of feeling backstage that Austin and Lesnar are two of the very few who have been at the top of WWE, and fully understand what the pressures of that position are.
