The following is an excerpt from some article about the Carolina Panthers' Jim Skipper, that's about all I can deduce - forgive me, I do not watch American Football. Read the rest at www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2004/01/31/SPG564M8E81.DTLThe Demons reached the XFL title game under Skipper, but that's not all he remembers about the league. He can talk in detail about a week of practice in Memphis during a stay between road games when the players were "running literally in water" on a swamped high school field and had to move their practice to a parking lot. And he remembers the day in May, after the end of the season, when coaches were meeting at the league office to prepare for the second season and the word came down at the end of the day that the league was folding. "I was a little bit shocked because we had been assured earlier that it was going to go," he said. "I think (XFL founder Vince McMahon) was a little misled. He went in with a vision for about a four-year plan, and the other folks went in with just a hit-or-miss with the TV ratings. "Hey, it's always a risk when you go in something new."
